About Carlos

Carlos leads McKinsey’s Financial Services Practice globally, our Public Sector and Healthcare Systems & Services Practices in Iberia. He has served financial institutions in both mature and developing markets across the five continents at all stages of the economic cycle. He has also accumulated significant experience in payments supporting major credit operators and card issuers on different strategic priorities.

Examples of this recent client work include the following:

  • defining the global strategy for a universal bank to improve profitability by 30 percent
  • designing the new organizational structure of a major financial conglomerate
  • deploying a 5-year program to implement a new management information system for a large global bank
  • creating of a major operational program to improve quality, time to service, and costs in a major international banking group
  • defining a new revolving business for a major financial institution
  • creating a new pricing strategy for the card business of a major bank
  • designing and implementing a new pricing strategy on home equity loans for a large North American bank
  • creating a consumer finance growth strategy for a major international retail banking group

Along his career, Carlos has combined his work in the financial sector with support to major state-owned companies in the public sector, including projects related to steel, banking, and social services.

In the health sector, he has covered a wide range of issues for private, state-owned, and not-for profit providers and pharmaceutical companies.

Carlos has published several articles and research studies on these topics and speaks frequently at international conferences. He serves on the boards of several Spanish and international foundations and nonprofits, including in the fields of oncology, education, and business in the community.
