Life at McKinsey Spain

McKinsey offers you a wide range of projects, the chance to work all over the world, and tremendous opportunity for personal growth. You will work with some of the most talented, creative people in Spain to help clients overcome their biggest challenges.

Founded in 1977, the Spanish office today is a close-knit community of over 160 consultants and 220 employees. Our people come from a wide range of backgrounds and form a vibrant group. They enjoy not only working together but also the social life that McKinsey Spain has to offer.

With offices in both Madrid and Barcelona, we serve the needs of many leading Spanish companies, including more than half of the Iberia Index 35 (IBEX) companies. Our consultants serve a wide range of clients across multiple industries, including consumer goods, energy, financial services and telecommunications—addressing operational, organizational, strategic and technological issues, always focusing on doing what is right for the client's business.

Professional development

Our most valuable asset is our people and we invest a major effort in attracting and retaining exceptional people. Through formal training programs, on-the-job coaching and mentoring, we help our consultants reach their full potential. All of our new consultants start with an introductory training program, Basic Consulting Readiness, to introduce them to consulting at McKinsey. This is a week-long training program covering the basics of problem solving, case studies, teamwork, communication, and our core values. But that is just the beginning. To further help you strengthen your skills during your career at McKinsey, you will enjoy an average of one week of formal training per year in addition to a variety of local and practice-related training opportunities.

In order to help you to have the best start possible in the Madrid office, upon your arrival, we assign you a senior consultant who will act as your development group leader. He or she will coach you, monitor your professional development, and help you in balancing your professional and personal life. As well as assigning you a senior consultant, we will find you a junior consultant who will act as your “buddy” and help you settle in.

There is also a variety of professional networks connected with our practice groups and different interest groups within McKinsey, which allow you to create a great network within the firm. For example, our women’s network is very active in Spain, organizing regular gatherings and coaching initiatives.

Work-life balance

Like any fast-track career, working at McKinsey is intense. Our clients rely on us during their most challenging times, and we go to great lengths to exceed their expectations. But meeting our commitments doesn’t mean putting our personal needs and interests on hold. In Spain, we support flexible work programs adapted to your individual needs and professional goals.

Last but not least, McKinsey Spain is a lot of fun! Not only at work, but also beyond the office, our people like to connect and spend time together. Our social committee organizes a variety of local events every month such as sports tournaments, field trips, retreats, and parties.
