McKinsey Black Network

Since 1991, the McKinsey Black Network has created a vibrant, global community whose purpose remains simple—to create an unrivaled environment for high performing talent and to play a vital role in supporting our people. Our network leads initiatives to support the advancement of its members at McKinsey from recruiting through onboarding, professional development, and connectivity. We aspire to:

• Attract talent to McKinsey through recruiting events and career opportunities such as the Sophomore Summer BA program for undergraduates, Inspire pre-MBA program, and Power of Togetherness series for experienced professionals
• Host training workshops for colleagues, ensuring they have the opportunity to grow and step into leadership positions at the firm
• Organize an annual conference to foster both peer and mentoring relationships within the community at McKinsey
• Help set McKinsey’s agenda for supporting the MBN community—for example, through the creation of Our 10 Actions toward racial equity
• Partner with external organizations supporting Black talent, including AfroTech and the National Black MBA Association

In addition to our internal efforts, we want to create opportunities for the advancement of Black leaders and professionals outside of McKinsey. Some examples include:

• Launching the McKinsey Institute for Economic Mobility, a research institute dedicated to identifying real-world solutions that promote the economic advancement of Black communities across the globe
• Establishing the Black Leadership Academy—now Connected Leaders Academy—which is offered at no cost and supports early professionals, midcareer managers, and senior executives. CLA provides participants an opportunity to connect identity, authenticity, and leadership. Programs provide spaces for deeper levels of discovery and discussion, some of which may be particularly relevant in the context of Black, Hispanic and Latino, and Asian identities. We welcome any participant who our clients select to participate in the CLA programs.
• Committing $200 million in pro bono work by 2030 to organizations that are helping grow opportunity among Black communities globally
• Selecting 35+ not-for-profit organizations to receive a combined total of $5 million in cash donations to help combat racism and support Black communities
