Whitney is a global strategy expert and leader of McKinsey’s strategy work. He works across industries, helping companies renew and redesign their strategies and mobilize them for execution. He specializes in the practices and capabilities of strategy design and strategic planning, and leads McKinsey’s research and global advisory on the role of the strategy leader. He has counselled more than 300 strategy executives in his work.
As a Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice leader, he helps lead McKinsey’s latest research into the future of strategy and advises on its latest research into operating models and organizational effectiveness from a strategy perspective.
Examples of Whitney’s recent client work include:
- transforming multiple clients’ approach to and capabilities in strategic planning and resource allocation
- running strategic reviews for multiple new CEOs and launching subsequent mobilization efforts, including building a transformation office and launching bottom-up planning across six continents, and running the operating model redesign for a leading global advanced industrial company
- advising the senior leadership and board of a company struggling with share price weakness on how to prepare for and proactively prevent activist investor action through value unlock strategies
- advising the CEO, CFO, and board of a manufacturer on industry-transforming M&A strategies, eventually helping manage due diligence with its chosen partner
- developing a framework for a Tier 1 supplier, analyzing how value chain disruptions affect mobility ecosystems in helping the organization redefine its corporate strategy
Prior to joining McKinsey, Whitney was an engineer and vehicle launch manager at the BMW Group, cofounded a start-up that developed an AI-enabled children’s learning companion, and was an engineer in a semiconductor fab.
