Kevin Russell is a senior fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), McKinsey’s business and economics research arm.
His research focuses on company growth and dynamics, especially in the fast-growing, tech-intensive industries, dubbed “arenas of competition,” and, more broadly, in the emerging AI economy. He also leads research on the role of companies in productivity growth, especially in emerging economies such as Southeast Asia and Latin America, and in sustainable and inclusive growth.
He is a frequent speaker on these topics at leading global conferences and industry events and supports clients around the world on the implications of the research for their business. His work is widely cited in the media, and he contributes articles and op-eds to major and local outlets and institutions from Foreign Affairs, VoxEU, and the World Economic Forum to the Charlotte Business Journal.
Prior to joining MGI, Kevin worked as a McKinsey consultant based in Southeast Asia, primarily in banking, power, and the public sector. Before McKinsey, Kevin spent 15 years in government and academia working primarily on topics related to economic development and political economy.
