Revitalizing Ohio’s economy
$54.8 billion in new capital investment attraction between 2013 and 2019
For over a decade, McKinsey has supported JobsOhio’s economic growth plan to attract investments in the state and reskill and upskill talent. Between 2013 and 2017, we helped Ohio add $30 billion in payroll and outpace 25 other states in growth. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked with the state to launch Ohio to Work, a reskilling and upskilling program that has attracted new investments and created new job opportunities for Ohioans, serving approximately 4,000 jobseekers to date.
Committing to carbon removal technologies
$925 million commitment to support the development of carbon removal technology
McKinsey has collaborated with Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and Stripe to launch Frontier, an eight-year, $925 million commitment to accelerate the development of permanent carbon removal technologies by guaranteeing future demand. The firm provides pro bono advisory support to carbon removal start-ups and businesses taking part in the initiative. By joining as a founding member of Frontier, we are committing to help rid the atmosphere and ocean of gigatons of existing CO2, through further expansion of the global supply of carbon removal.
Eradicating polio in Nigeria
No new polio cases since 2016
In collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, McKinsey designed and deployed a set of emergency operations centers (EOCs) to combat the country’s polio endemic. We developed the EOCs’ organizational structure, trained staff to collect and analyze data, and worked with national leaders to improve the overall vaccination campaign. Thanks to these efforts, Nigeria has successfully eradicated polio and significantly increased polio immunity among its population.
Building a future-ready workforce in Australia
20 million Australian dollars forecast over three years from increased productivity and talent retention
Working with the Department of Regional New South Wales (DRNSW), an Australian government agency supporting rural communities across the state, McKinsey has shown what’s possible in building new workforce capabilities—and what scale could look like. Over 12 months, DRNSW and McKinsey built an enterprise Digital Skills Program, preparing workers to thrive in the skills-based economy. Results exceeded expectations in record time, with over 90 percent employee satisfaction and 85 percent of participants reporting improved applied skills.
