Helps energy companies design and execute industry-leading performance transformation

Ignacio (Nacho) leads McKinsey’s organization work in the global energy sector, with a focus on performance management. He has particular expertise in the areas of oil and gas operators and oilfield services and equipment companies (OFSEs). Nacho’s focus is in helping major energy companies design and execute industry-leading performance transformations that unlock the full potential of assets and engage the workforce, creating a performance culture of excellence.

Examples of Nacho’s recent client engagements include:

  • collaborating with an Eastern European upstream stakeholder, achieving $1.2 billion of impact in a capital productivity effort
  • supporting the change management and cultural evolution of a downstream transformation with $1 billion+ per year impact
  • guiding the full transformation of a retail gas station company, achieving 50 percent margin expansion using advanced analytics and traditional levers
  • unlocking $140 million per year by helping improve an operating model execution for an offshore driller
  • leading multiple mergers in energy (upstream operators, utilities, and OFSEs) across topics like value capture, operating model, culture, and change with impact ranging from $300 million to $650 million in synergies
  • advising an unconventional enterprise on how to transform ways of working across their organization to fully implement a centralized model
  • helping lead a portfolio strategy project to evaluate the exposure and resiliency of an OFSE company versus different market scenarios, enabling a clear path for the execution of divestments and acquisitions

Before joining McKinsey, Nacho led drilling and logging teams in offshore facilities in Canada and Norway for a global OFSE company and then worked in planning, strategy, and commercial roles in a global oil country tubular goods company based in the US. He has an MBA from INSEAD and has been at McKinsey since 2014, where he was based in London until he relocated to Houston, Texas in 2018.
