As a senior expert with more than 25 years’ experience in the maritime industry, Arjen offers deep expertise across all areas of the shipping value chain, including ports and maritime infrastructure, the technical and operational aspects of shipping, as well as financing, M&A, and market research, but he has a particular spike in all elements related to sustainability in maritime.

Arjen advises global shipping companies, port authorities, and equipment manufacturers on topics such as strategy, digital transformation, and operations. He also supports a wide variety of stakeholders with benchmarking, sector outlook modeling, feasibility studies, due diligence, financing, and mergers and acquisitions.

In his shipping work, he has helped multiple container, tanker, and dry bulk shipping companies make strategic operating decisions, improve capabilities, and realize cost savings. He also advises on decarbonization strategies and digitization.

Arjen has conducted several operations diagnostics for major ports and terminals, helping to improve operations and boost reliability and stability.

Recent examples of Arjen’s client work include:

  • developing a location feasibility study for a ship repair yard, including analyzing traffic flows and segmenting the potential customer base
  • creating a digital strategy for one of the largest ports in Europe
  • supporting the development of a marine decarbonization model for a major industry consortium focused on decarbonizing the shipping industry
  • designing a strategic fuel cost-reduction program for a shipping conglomerate with over 500 ships, including a fuel efficiency management system and an online training tool
  • developing a growth strategy for a shipping company after merging different entities into one company, including reorganizing and restructuring the businesses and setting up growth initiatives with the intention of tripling profits
  • helping a container carrier to make a choice between scrubber, LNG, and low-sulfur fuel
