About Alex

Alex Kimura is a strategic and operations expert in the financial services industry and Asia markets.  

Prior to McKinsey, Alex worked in investment banking and management consulting; later, held C-Suite positions in leading global insurance firms. He had profit and loss and line operational responsibilities that included distribution and wealth management, strategy, innovation and customer experience, M&A, corporate development, data analytics, digital transformation, and venture capital in several countries across Asia. A main area of recent focus has been on digital innovation where he spearheaded efforts to build the next generation of insurance business models and also chaired the digital innovation roundtable of Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

For more than two decades, Alex has led top-tier insurance organizations and has been responsible for transformational development efforts across life, property and casualty, and health insurance businesses. He was also instrumental in executing the major transactions and structuring activities across the region, directing portfolio acquisitions, partnerships, joint-ventures, and divestments.

Over the years, Alex has served on a number of boards, an extension of the network and partnerships he built together with the leading financial institutions and national champions in Greater China, Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, and India.

Alex is a frequent speaker at several industry conferences including Financial Times, Asia Insurance Review, Innovation in Asia, and Actuarial Societies. He is a member of Startup Bootcamp Fintech and regularly judges at MAS Global Fintech and Hackcelerator events.

Alex is an avid tennis player and global traveler. He has traveled to more than 80 countries, and his travel goal is to visit at least one UNESCO heritage site a year. After having resided and worked in 11 countries, he is now based in Singapore with his wife and five children.
