McKinsey offered me the opportunity to go one level deeper in my understanding of how the real world works, how institutions organize themselves, and how decisions are made.

My Path to McKinsey

Prior to joining McKinsey, I spent eight years in financial services, both on the buying and selling side. I found McKinsey at a stage in my professional career where I wanted to do more at an institution level, to understand how strategy and execution shaped companies.

Choosing McKinsey

McKinsey offered me the opportunity to go one level deeper in my understanding of how the real world works, how institutions organize themselves, and how decisions are made. McKinsey’s work in both the public and private sectors is an invaluable platform for developing this understanding.

Rewarding work experiences

I recall helping a client conclude a complicated transaction that breathed new life into their M&A strategy. The client had spent a better part of two years searching for a deal to diversify from their core business. Nonetheless, a high requirement bar and a complex stakeholder map proved challenging. Working with the clients, we pushed the thinking and helped navigate stakeholder engagement which ultimately led to the successful closure. It was great to see all the hard work materialize and to grow together with the clients.

Leadership at McKinsey

We work closely together at McKinsey. On the job, you experience different leadership styles, both at client sites and McKinsey offices. I’ve witnessed CEO-counselor leadership as well as content-led leadership styles that ultimately helped sharpen our problem solving.

Developing professionally

Our environment helps you succeed. The firm is willing to invest in you through well-planned trainings and provide step-up opportunities for you to build leadership skills. In McKinsey, you have the right tools to make the most of your own journey.

Inspiring colleagues

I have met colleagues who are deeply dedicated to helping their country grow. And I have worked with colleagues who genuinely want to understand and unlock people’s leadership styles. The common trait that unites all my colleagues is passion.

Advice for those applying to McKinsey

Many people focus only on whether they are the “right fit” for McKinsey. But the process is as much about you asking yourself, “is McKinsey the right fit for me?”. This will help in understanding if the firm will help you achieve your growth ambitions.
