Who we are

The Center for US Health System Reform is McKinsey’s in-house source on health policies. The Center was launched in 2010 to advance knowledge and insights critical to Affordable Care Act–related strategy, organization, and operations. Since then, the Center has evolved to track some of the most important transformative health-policy changes in an evolving healthcare landscape. This includes topics such as social determinants of health, behavioral health, changes in the individual market, evolution of Medicare Advantage, innovations in state Medicaid programs, and more. The Center's goal is to help our public-, private-, and social-sector clients address the implications of health policies while also sharing knowledge and research with the broader public.

What we do

At the Center, McKinsey brings together the depth of its real-world management expertise, proprietary knowledge, rigorous primary research, and economic analysis to understand the implications of policy-related activity. Insights power high-impact client activities and inform reports that are shared with the public.

Our research focuses on the impact of health policies across key health-system stakeholders, including health insurers, healthcare providers, consumers, state and federal governments, distributors, employers, retail pharmacies, pharmacy benefit manufacturers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Example topics include social determinants of health, behavioral health, cost of care, exchange dynamics, network and benefit design, and innovative healthcare delivery models, among others.

The work is driven by world-class experts in collaboration with McKinsey's global network of consultants. In keeping with McKinsey principles, the Center does not engage in policymaking or advocacy. Research is independently funded by the partners of McKinsey and is not commissioned by any business, government, or other institution.
