McKinsey Diverse Young Leaders Scholarship

The McKinsey Diverse Young Leaders Scholarship was established with the goal of supporting and building relationships with promising and diverse Bay Area students.

About the award

McKinsey will select award winners to receive:

$5,000 or $1,000 towards your college education or other educational program supplementing your college education (for example, books or a study abroad program)
Being matched with a mentor from the McKinsey San Francisco or Silicon Valley offices
A guaranteed first round interview for a summer internship (after sophomore or junior year) or a guaranteed first round interview for a full time Business Analyst position (after senior year) in one of our West Coast offices (San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Southern California)

One $5,000 award and multiple $1,000 awards will be granted.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Successful applicants will have strong academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and proven leadership ability. We are looking for students who are accomplished and well-rounded with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Be a high school senior graduating in Spring 2020
Be of Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino race or ethnicity, and/or part of Indigenous groups in North America
Be able to establish to McKinsey evidence of your identity and right to work in the U.S.
Have a minimum unweighted grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and either a minimum ACT score of 25 or a minimum SAT score of 1740 (old scoring) or 1250 (new scoring)
Have plans to enroll at a four-year accredited institution during the 2020 - 2021 academic year

How do I apply?

Online application form
One 250 - 500 word personal statement
One letter of recommendation
Unofficial high school transcript and test scores

Application timeline:

September 1, 2019 - application period is open
April 19, 2020 - application deadline
Late April through Early May - select candidates will be invited for interviews
Early May through Mid May - scholarship recipients will be notified
