Michael is a senior partner in McKinsey’s Cleveland office and leads the firm’s Healthcare Provider Transformation work. For nearly two decades, he has advised the boards and executive teams of many of the largest health systems in the United States on enterprise transformation, strategy, turnarounds, and M&A. His clients include academic and community, for-profit and not-for-profit, adult and pediatric, and private equity–owned systems.
Michael helps leaders take a holistic view of what drives performance and then deliver it through multiyear programs spanning clinical operations, the workforce, the revenue cycle, the supply chain, managed care, physician alignment, and the corporate center. His recent work includes the turnaround of a leading academic health system, enterprise transformations at national not-for-profit and investor-owned operators, and long-range strategy for major academic medical centers. He helps clients apply automation and AI in administrative and clinical operations, and he supports state governments on hospital and rural health transformation.
He is a trusted counselor to CEOs and boards at moments of consequence, including financial distress, mergers, and decisions about long-term direction.
Michael holds a PhD, an MS, and a BS in nuclear science and engineering from MIT.
