Supports clients with managing increasingly complex external environments—including corporate, portfolio, and regulatory strategy—and helps corporate affairs teams to deliver value to their organizations

Madeleine helps global energy and natural resources companies develop resilient portfolio and business strategies and navigate increasingly complex external environments with robust regulatory and sustainability strategies. Madeleine has worked with major energy producers and mining companies, independents, industry associations, and cleantech players globally with a focus on growth, resilience, and sustainability.

Madeleine also coleads our geopolitics effort in Europe, helping companies across a range of sectors to shore up resilience and manage risk while identifying new opportunities for growth and performance.

Examples of her recent work include:

  • helping an energy company redefine the ten-year strategic direction of core business units, realize opportunities from a new regulatory regime, and create value from operational performance improvements
  • developing a major energy company’s global new energies strategy and implementation plan, including designing a $4 billion joint investment and partnership structure, conducting M&A target scans, and assessing supply chains, procurement strategies, and operating models
  • working with an independent exploration and production company to reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent; also identifying a $1 billion revenue opportunity by monetizing stranded gas and by-products
  • identifying $5–10 billion EBITDA opportunities in new energies for a global natural resources company, leading to the setup of a new business unit
  • developing a pioneering approach to stakeholder management and valuation of external nontechnical risk for a global energy company; also identifying over $5 billion of value at stake from external engagements in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America
  • assessing geopolitical vulnerabilities with regard to end markets, supply chain, supplier management, and footprint decisions for a European distribution company

Before joining McKinsey, Madeleine coled the German Marshall Fund of the United States’ (GMF) Wider Atlantic program, where she brought together policymakers, business leaders, and prominent thinkers from Africa, the Americas, and Europe for dialogues on cross-regional and cross-sectoral issues. These issues ranged from managing natural resources and energy security to access to investment and private sector development.

Madeleine is passionate about helping current and future leaders grow and thrive. She launched the Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders Program while at GMF, coled Black Leadership Academy programs in Europe, and is a core supporter of McKinsey’s Future Black Leaders Programme. She was also chair of the board of Accountability Lab, a global NGO focused on making governance work for people, and worked with Generation UK, helping people overcome barriers to employment and access tech and green jobs.
