Tarek (TJ) leads our Public Sector and Social Sector Practices in the Middle East.  He has served government agencies and multinationals in Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. An expert in large-scale transformations, TJ helps clients actualize strategic plans while building their institutional capabilities. He has global experience in helping governments and consumer-facing companies to design and deliver large-scale transformations.

In the public sector, TJ’s work often focuses on economic transformation and citizen well-being. He recognizes the power of a strong, resilient private sector to accelerate economic growth and regularly advises governments on strategies to encourage private investment and economic and human-capital development. Recent examples of his client work in this space include the following:

  • assisting with a national economic transformation plan that overhauled more than 25 government agencies
  • advising on a national small-and-medium-enterprise growth strategy, corresponding operating model, and governance structure
  • helping to shape a national investment strategy to maximize gross domestic product by identifying priority sectors and opportunities and investor-selection criteria
  • defining a national well-being framework and providing guidance on priority initiatives to better engage citizens and deliver public services
  • working with leading refugee-relief organizations and Middle East governments on children’s education

Drawing on his expertise in commercial transformations, TJ advises leading consumer-facing companies on shopper behavior, branding, customer loyalty, and pricing. He recently partnered with a leading global retailer and mall operator to design a 2030–40 shopping experience based on mega-shopping trends.

Prior to joining McKinsey, TJ worked in investment banking and capital markets at Merrill Lynch.
