Advises banks and insurance companies on data-enabled business building and digital transformations

Matthias leads McKinsey’s business-building work in banking and coleader of the firm’s fintech sector in Germany. In his roles, he helps global clients build data-enabled businesses from scratch and financial institutions digitize business.

Over the past years, Matthias has built a strong track record around business building and financial-services transformation. His recent projects include the following:

  • implementing various new digital-fintech businesses from scratch, including a bank, an insurance company, and a software as a service business
  • developing an overall growth strategy for the product portfolio of European software providers
  • defining and implementing data strategies for a range of European financial institutions
  • advising on a multiyear digital transformation of a bank’s risk department

Before rejoining McKinsey in 2019, Matthias was managing partner at finleap, where he was responsible for platform businesses, and product and tech delivery.

Matthias holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in business-information systems from the University of Münster as well as a PhD from the Humboldt University of Berlin. He also studied at Carnegie Mellon University. Matthias lives in Berlin with his wife and son.
