Clay Bischoff

Partner, Tokyo
Advises executives in the healthcare and private-equity sectors, drawing on expertise in strategy, finance, and mergers and acquisitions

About Clay

As a leader in the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Products Practice, Clay focuses on critical strategic issues that companies in this sector face when identifying sources of growth and value creation. He has served a range of clients, including branded and generic biopharmaceutical companies, medical-device companies, and service providers, such as contract-manufacturing and research organizations.

Clay applies insights from healthcare to serve private-equity clients that invest in the sector. He works closely with clients to develop investment theses and advises them on complex due-diligence efforts. In addition, Clay works closely with management teams of portfolio companies to shape and implement their value-creation roadmaps.

Examples of his recent client work include the following:

  • supporting a global medical-device company on the due diligence and postmerger integration of its largest acquisition to-date, supporting all functions and regions on implementation
  • leading strategy development and go-to-market-model design for a high-growth pharmaceutical-services provider
  • advising a global pharmaceutical company on its commercial model and partnership strategy in international markets
  • counseling a large private-equity company on its investment thesis in healthcare and subsequent due diligence on several potential targets in different segments

In addition to his work at McKinsey, Clay is a competitive sailor. He is a world champion in the Etchells and team racing disciplines and was a 2007 nominee for US Sailing Yachtsman of the Year.
