Carter brings more than 25 years of client experience spanning strategy, operations, and organization, and is particularly adept at advising companies on large-scale transformations that integrate operations improvement with organizational change. He has advised manufacturing, travel, logistics, energy, consumer goods, and other organizations on aspects of transformation including commercial opportunities, operational improvement levers, and organizational health to sustain the improvement.

Inside the firm, Carter is a member of McKinsey’s Shareholders Council, our board of directors, and serves as the firm’s chief risk officer. He previously served as co-chair of the partner review committee, which provides feedback and evaluation for McKinsey partners; managing partner for the firm’s Southern Office including McKinsey’s locations in Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, and Miami; and the leader of the Organization Practice in the Americas.

Before joining McKinsey, Carter was vice president of business development with an early-stage software company.
