At McKinsey, I can fulfill my goals: learning from bright people, and working on complex, meaningful problems.

Rapid growth – from day one

I became interested in McKinsey during my last year at university, when I participated in an annual case-study competition.

This taught me that the firm was a place where I could fulfill my goals: working with bright people on complex, meaningful problems. I joined, with a BA degree, as a junior business analyst. The amount of responsibility I received from day one was striking.

Learn faster than you thought possible

Before joining, I had heard that I would learn three times faster at McKinsey than anywhere else. I did not think that was possible. But in addition to what I have learned from the high level of work and from the excellent people surrounding me, I have been offered training that focuses on my professional and personal development.

Our clients learn, too. At one of them, for example, we worked together with a small client team. After we finished our project, that team was responsible for handling the new processes and supporting tools we had created. It was a great experience for me to see how much the capabilities of the team's members had improved and how well they managed their new responsibilities after we had worked to to find solutions.

Working in an open and supportive environment

One surprise at McKinsey has been how much support I’ve received from my colleagues. Everyone does whatever it takes to provide other firm members with advice, feedback, and coaching. This support helped me to become a senior business analyst in my first year. Our One Firm approach also encourages an incredible degree of knowledge sharing. Once, when I requested help on a specific topic, I received calls from London, New York and San Francisco within two days, and these gave provided me exactly what our client needed.
