Advises retail and consumer-packaged-goods companies across Europe on a variety of strategy and corporate finance initiatives, including strategy reviews, strategy development, value creation programs, transformations, mergers & acquisitions, post-merger integrations, as well as CEO transitions.

Marcus has extensive experience working in the Consumer-facing industry. In this capacity, he helps wholesale, retail and consumer-packaged goods clients across a broad range of tangible value creation programs and transformative opportunities.

Marcus joined McKinsey as an experienced investment banking professional for the Consumer industry. Marcus further draws passion and value creation insights from previous first-hand in-store experience as a manager of two grocery retail stores.

His recent examples of client impact include:

  • delivering a transformative value creation program across the full spectrum of retail levers - including pricing & promotion optimization, vendor management and negotiation, professionalization, assortment enhancement, organization, and working capital efficiency – that tripled a leading European pet supplies retailer’s EBITDA
  • leading the largest post-merger integration of a global consumer packaged goods leader – including synergy capture, HR and culture, location strategy and process management across two continents
  • realizing industry yardstick synergy capture levels in a multifaceted, five-country post-merger integration of the two leading South-Eastern European grocery retailers
  • onboarding the CEO of a leading DAX30 company in a dedicated workshop series across global and industry trends, value creation avenues, cultural change, and personal leadership profile
  • designing the portfolio strategy for one of the key growth markets of a leading global beverages manufacturer – including holistic market and competitor assessment, merger scenario analysis, and synergy valuation
  • developing a holistic commercial transformation as well as sales and margin improvement program for a globally active sweets and snacks producer

Marcus has published his corporate finance research and expertise in leading international journals including Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Strongly interested in helping retail and consumer clients to embrace also digital in their strategy and value creation journey, Marcus has further initiated McKinsey’s startup coaching and networking initiatives in our Digital Hub in Berlin.
