Since joining McKinsey, Julen has served clients in the energy sector in the Americas and Europe. He focuses on improving operations for oil and gas (upstream) and mining companies. Julen joined the firm at our Madrid office, then moved to Mexico to serve clients throughout Latin America.

Julen coleads McKinsey's Model Factory in Monterrey, in association with Caintra. He is also actively involved in our global energy and materials work and has deep expertise in transformations.

Among his numerous projects, Julen has led a full potential program for the exploration and production division at a subsidiary of a top ten global oil and gas company. He has also identified the full potential of a leading copper mine, including top-down diligence and bottom-up planning, and implemented equipment and labor operational efficiencies in the portfolio of a leading mining company. In Peru, Julen developed the strategy of the mining sector, evaluating its competitiveness against direct competitors, and identifying potential improvement levers, in collaboration with the minister of energy and mining and the private sector.
