James has worked extensively in more than 50 organizations across 15 countries and is a trusted advisor to business owners, investors, and CEOs of local and multinational companies operating in China. As one of the leaders in McKinsey’s Transformation Practice, he focuses on helping clients solve complex challenges that reside at the intersection of business operations and workforce psychology.
James has experience in leading large-scale transformations for consumer-packaged-goods, retail, automotive, insurance, telecommunications, electrical-components, and aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul companies.
Before joining McKinsey, James was the managing director for a global operations consulting firm, where he managed a team of more than 40 consultants and had overall profit and loss accountability for the region.
Examples of his recent client projects include the following:
- acting as an interim chief procurement officer for a Taiwanese technology, media, and telecommunications client, delivering more than $8 million worth of recurring earnings-before-interest-and-tax (EBIT) impact within 6 months
- leading a corporate turnaround for a cement company in China as the chief transformation officer, delivering $18 million in recurring EBIT impact within 10 months
