David González

Senior PartnerMadrid

Brings extensive expertise in utilities and oil and gas to his work on strategy, operations, regulation, and organization.

David is a partner in McKinsey’s Madrid office and co-leads our work in the energy sector across Iberia and Latin America. He supports leading companies in Europe and Latin America in developing strategy, strengthening operations, improving environmental sustainability, and shaping responses to regulation.

David’s work includes advising major local and international companies on the development of growth strategies, both organic and involving M&A. He has helped clients implement extensive programs for optimizing cost base, which have yielded benefits such as a 15 to 20 percent reduction in operating expenses (with strong focus on procurement) and a 10 to 25 percent savings in recurrent capital expenditure (coupled with an improvement in quality of service).

On the commercial front, David supports utilities and banks with commercial strategy and planning. He has also supported clients on a number of commercial transformations involving channel optimization—such as setting up a new regional contact center and implementing a productivity program for external sales forces and contact centers—doubling their productivity within 12 months.

Before joining McKinsey, David was an engineer with Red Eléctrica de España.
