About Angus

Based in our Sydney office, Angus leads our Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice across Asia, bringing extensive experience serving clients across corporate, business-unit, and regulatory strategy, as well as M&A and international growth. He focuses on consumer industries, applying deep experience in retail, consumer goods, telecommunications, media, and financial services, but also has served industrial, energy, and commodities clients. He previously led McKinsey’s research into the granularity of growth in Asia and most recently has led a global refresh of McKinsey’s approach to business strategy. Over the last few years, he has helped clients on strategy across Asia, Australia, Mexico, and the United States.

Angus’s recent client experience includes helping a major Asian retailer over the past 5 years with corporate strategy, business strategy, M&A, organization design, and performance improvement. He has also worked with one of Asia’s major banks over the past 10 years as it transformed from a lagging performer to one of the most profitable and valuable global banks. This included work on strategy, organization, culture, technology, operations, and distribution.

Angus supported an Asian telecom player over several years to develop breakthrough strategies across fixed and mobile, as well as across the consumer, small-business, and enterprise segments, where his work included evaluating disruptive broadband technologies and adjacent portfolio moves.

Earlier, Angus led our team supporting the Australian government for 2 years on the National Broadband Network (NBN) Implementation Study, including detailed evaluation of the cost and performance trade-offs of various fiber, wireless, and satellite technologies. This included looking at end-user demand and developing the NBN business plan, designing the regulatory settings, and assisting in negotiating with various industry players to transition to the new industry structure. Angus is also joint-lead faculty of the strategy program in the McKinsey Academy, an online executive-education initiative launched recently.
