Over the past 13 years at McKinsey, Abhijit has worked with large mining and steel companies in Africa, Australia, India, and Southeast Asia to help them fundamentally transform their performance trajectory. An industry veteran, he has visited over 100 mines around the world and has also worked closely with associations and ministries throughout India’s mining and steel sectors. Abhijit is currently focused on unlocking fast-paced EBITDA through digital and analytics transformations and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) projects for companies in this sector.

Some of his recent work includes the following:

  • engineering a large-scale transformation of an integrated natural resources company to successfully transition from open cast to fully underground mining, while achieving a quick underground ramp-up
  • shaping a turnaround strategy for a distressed coal mining asset in Australia
  • helping add 50 percent incremental bottom line to a specialized midsized steel plant in India
  • Cleared a production bottleneck issue for a zinc miner in Africa to boost production twofold
  • executing a 20 percent EBITDA improvement of a high performing steel plant in India

Abhijit is currently focused on executing holistic performance transformation for mining and steel companies with the objective of delivering double the impact in half the time using advanced analytics and digital levers. He is also helping key natural resource companies execute a practical ESG strategy to achieve tangible decarbonization goals that are value-accretive.
