Solar Impulse
McKinsey serves as the knowledge partner to Solar Impulse, whose solar-powered plane circled the world in 2015, symbolizing energy innovation and a pioneering spirit.

Advance

An association of Switzerland-based companies, Advance aims to increase the share of women in senior executive positions. Founded in March 2013, it offers ambitious female executives in its member companies a program of events, workshops, mentorship, and advice to increase their opportunities for advancement. The association is funded through an annual subscription fee paid by the member companies.

Solar Impulse

Solar Impulse is a Switzerland-based initiative that had one mission: to fly a solar airplane around the world in 2015—which it accomplished. And it has a vision beyond this accomplishment: that energy innovation and a pioneering spirit must prevail in commerce, finance, and politics. As Solar Impulse’s official knowledge partner, McKinsey draws on its global energy expertise to develop balanced perspectives on future resource challenges.

Venture

Venture is a competition designed to help budding Swiss entrepreneurs develop promising ideas into business plans—and ultimately into successful companies. Founded in 1998 by McKinsey, ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Commission for Technology and Innovation, and Knecht Holding, the competition runs every two years. Previous participants have founded more than 550 companies and created over 4,500 jobs.

Bookbridge

In partnership with Ashoka, McKinsey supports Bookbridge in building new learning centers to bring quality education to people in need. We also provide real-life case studies for its Capability Program, which helps emerging leaders learn skills such as project planning, working with multiple stakeholders, and leading diverse teams in different cultural contexts.

The EspeRare Foundation

This nonprofit organization collaborates with patient groups and stakeholders to identify pharmacotherapies to alleviate rare diseases. Its approach is centered on patient engagement, with the goal of providing universal access to these new medicines. We helped EspeRare develop a business model, innovative value proposition, growth priorities, and methodology to assess its impact on public health.

Generation

This is the first program from the McKinsey Social Initiative, the firm’s nonprofit organization. It aims to improve the employment prospects for youth by presenting new ways to develop skills and job readiness for high-growth industries like healthcare, technology, customer service, sales and retail, and skilled trades. With programs in five countries, Generation’s initial goal is to connect one million young people with skills and jobs by 2020.
