About McKinsey & Company’s past work for South Africa’s State Owned Enterprises
McKinsey remains fully committed to South Africa and investing in the country for the long term. Our South Africa office will continue to be a priority as we support the country’s economic growth, and a key part of our broader commitment to clients and stakeholders across Africa.
In addition to reaching a final resolution with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in December 2024, for McKinsey South Africa’s work for state-owned enterprises, Eskom and Transnet, from 2012 to 2016, we have taken significant accountable action, including major upgrades to our risk, legal, and compliance controls to ensure McKinsey sets the standard across our profession.
Our focus now is rebuilding trust with stakeholders across the country. We are investing in the talent and development of our colleagues and the capabilities of our office, focused on addressing critical cross-industry challenges, including the impact of technology on key sectors, the opportunities and challenges posed by generative AI, and how to navigate the net-zero transition successfully.
