Sameer specializes in healthcare and business technology. He is also well versed with payer and provider organizations and has advised them on analytics and operations-related topics, while helping them boost their bottom line by introducing and optimizing processes related to claims processing, enrollment and billing, medical management, payment accuracy, and claims recovery.

Sameer leads McKinsey’s work in payer operations and is a core leader in McKinsey’s transformation center of excellence in North America. Sameer’s expertise lies in helping health insurance organizations achieve operational excellence and optimize their cost baselines.

In his work in payer transformations, Sameer has supported several national and Blues plans as well as provider-led health plans and integrated delivery networks. He has experience helping large health plans shore up their operations and help them improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations and develop new processes to address capability gaps. 

Examples of his recent client work include the following:

  • leading assessment of operational capabilities of a large national payer and helping to identify steps within claims processing and enrollment functions which could be automated using machine learning, AI, and robotic process automation
  • launching a new captive offshore of 5,000 full-time employees for a large national payer spread across three sites in two different countries starting from defining strategy and business case, to formulating detailed implementation plan and three-year roadmap
  • leading the assessment of procurement practices at a large national payer and identifying opportunities to reduce vended spend through better negotiation of contract terms and improving vendor management practices
  • leading comprehensive diagnostic of a health system’s physician productivity as well as supplies and purchasing efficiency
  • identifying critical data analytics required by various business units in a payer organization to enable insightful use of available data and  predictive analytics
