About Wolfgang

Wolfgang is a master expert of product development and a partner in McKinsey’s Operations Practice. He leads the design-to-value labs in Europe and the Centre for Cost Engineering.

Wolfgang has deep experience in advanced industries—including automotive, aerospace and defence, and machinery—as well as in consumer goods and across a wide range of other industries, including high-tech and transportation.

In the automotive industry, Wolfgang has led design-to-value initiatives to optimize products for numerous automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-1 suppliers. He has supported manufacturers of aerospace equipment and highly complex, almost unique machinery in design-to-cost transformations, focusing on fast and sustainable impact. His work often extends to procurement engagements, where he has helped generate substantial savings in a multibillion-euro investment.

He has also undertaken design-to-value analyses and product teardown for more than a dozen European and global manufacturers of consumer goods and retailers, leading transformation programs and product conventions.

Beyond this, Wolfgang has led design-to-value product analyses for global leaders in renewable energy, manufacturing equipment, and medical devices and equipment.

He also leads cleansheet calculation initiatives at scale across industries for negotiation support and cost driver analysis, and has facilitated capability-building programs for design-to-value and cleansheet calculations across multiple industries.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Wolfgang worked on projects for several automotive OEMs and a manufacturer of aerospace equipment.
