Transforms insurance and banking operations with AI and digital innovation

About Selim

Selim is a partner in McKinsey’s New York office, where he serves leading insurance and banking institutions. He leads McKinsey’s insurance operations work in North America, helping insurers, brokers, and service providers reimagine journeys across onboarding, underwriting, and servicing. He also leads the firm’s AI partnerships in service operations.

In more than a decade at McKinsey, Selim has advised CEOs, COOs, and CIOs on transforming how their organizations operate, from deploying AI and automation in core workflows to redesigning operating models to build technology faster. His work focuses on moving beyond individual technology use cases to redesign underlying processes, technology, and ways of working to deliver impact at scale.

Examples of Selim’s recent financial services client work include:

• developing the AI strategy for a commercial insurer to transform the submission-to-bind journey, including how agents and underwriters interact across submissions, underwriting, and binding

• using AI-enabled synthetic customer personas to help a financial institution design and test its next-generation flagship credit card products ahead of a planned nationwide launch

• redesigning enrollment and underwriting for a leading North American life insurer, integrating digital experiences, electronic health data, automation, and AI-enabled risk assessment, aiming to increase straight-through processing by 2.5 times

• shaping a multiyear technology strategy for a leading life insurer, including the use of gen AI and new engineering approaches to improve technology delivery and developer productivity

• leading a digital operations transformation for a regional bank, combining journey redesign, automation, and next-generation lean approaches to unlock 40 percent productivity improvement across key operations

Selim is a frequent contributor to McKinsey’s thinking on the future of insurance, AI-enabled productivity, technology transformation, and new business building. His recent work includes a McKinsey on Insurance discussion on how insurers can combine AI and automation with end-to-end process redesign to unlock the next wave of productivity.

Before joining McKinsey, Selim advised several startup founders on product development and early-stage growth, including a company that went public within a year. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in computer science and economics from Brandeis University.
