Leads rapid-pace digital transformations for companies looking for a fresh start, taking an owner's mind-set to maximize business value

Florian is the founder and global leader of our work in digital transformation. This recently established area of client service focuses on the delivery of large-scale transformations, helping companies make use of digital technology to improve their competitive positions.

Digital transformation work allows Florian to integrate several areas of expertise developed over the past two decades. As the former leader of RTS in Europe—one of McKinsey’s largest and fastest-growing practices—he worked hand in hand with the leaders of underperforming enterprises to take moments of challenge as opportunities for rapid reinvention. Florian advised private-equity investors on their portfolios and investment strategies, adopting an owner’s mind-set on steering a company to reach its full value. In addition, he helped enterprises to transform themselves in times of digitization either as an opportunity for growth, a change for business model innovation or a danger to be squeezed out of markets over time.

Examples of his recent work:

  • leading a disruptive business-building initiative for a global telecommunications company seeking new business opportunities in the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • advising a global electrical equipment company seeking to reinvent its existing business model via a digital platform
  • guiding a digital turnaround for a multinational book retailer
  • advised an EMEA telecommunications company to achieve radical growth in digital

Beyond his consulting work, Florian is a board member of a midsize family-owned media company, a role that has given him valuable perspective on the challenges of business ownership and governance. He brings this firsthand experience to his leadership of the McKinsey Board Academy, a nonprofit organization supporting board members in Germany and Switzerland. Florian is also active in McKinsey’s own governance, serving on several executive committees.
