Atsushi is a partner in McKinsey’s Tokyo office who leads our Strategy & Corporate Finance and Private Capital work. His expertise encompasses corporate strategy, M&A, capital markets, and activist defense. Atsushi provides comprehensive support in M&A and capital markets, including M&A strategy formulation, investment theme development, target identification, business due diligence, and post-merger management. His capital markets proficiency extends to private equity (including buyout and infrastructure), venture capital and startup support, investor relations strategy, and shareholder activism response. Atsushi collaborates with a diverse array of companies, particularly in the logistics and IT services sectors, which are positioned to become next-generation infrastructure.

Examples of Atsushi’s recent work include:

  • developing strategy and conducting business due diligence for a major trading house, considering M&A opportunities
  • crafting an investment strategy for a leading private equity firm
  • formulating a mid-term business plan for a major IT services provider
  • supporting post-merger management for a domestic logistics company following an acquisition
  • developing a corporate strategy for a major Japanese B2C service provider
  • providing due diligence support for a global private equity firm
  • advising overseas institutional investors on inbound investments in the Japanese market

Before joining McKinsey, Atsushi worked in the Technology and Fixed Income divisions at Morgan Stanley, focusing on secondary market operations. He also served in the Investment Banking Division at J.P. Morgan, providing financial advisory services for large-scale domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, and gained experience in equity and debt capital markets underwriting.

Atsushi has contributed to the field by leading the Japanese translation of McKinsey Valuation 7th Edition in 2022 and authoring “McKinsey on Value Creation through M&A” in 2024.
