Rafael is a partner in our Quito office, where he coleads the firm’s Oil & Gas Practice in Latin America. He has led multiple transformations for oil and gas organizations across the Americas, including upstream operators and oil field service and equipment businesses, and he has significant experience with strategy, digital and operations topics in the region.

Examples of Rafael’s recent work include the following:

  • supporting a large oil and gas integrated business with the development of an ambitious transformation plan aimed at delivering more than $2 billion in improvements over three years
  • developing a 24-month holistic transformation for an exploration and production company in Latin America hat covered all areas of the business, including field development, production optimization, drilling efficiency, operational costs, procurement, digital, working capital and exploration
  • helping an Americas oil and gas operator define a $1 billion operating model for an end-to-end digital transformation
  • supporting a government-owned oil company with defining its digital strategy, developing an end-to-end implementation map for each of the operating units—upstream, midstream and downstream—and functional units—finance, HR, commercial; the effort also included the creation of a digital factory with agile cells to support the transformation
  • defining a five-year strategic plan for a government-owned oil company to respond to new regulations
  • supporting an oil and gas company with its bidding strategy for international oil areas
  • supporting an oil and gas company with defining a program to optimize the value capture of its portfolio, including the use of strategic alliances, such as farm-outs
  • supporting a Latin American regulator with defining a strategic program, including initiatives to strengthen its energy matrix and reduce energy imports by 50%
  • helping manage and implement a deep-water business program for an oil company in the Gulf of Mexico, focusing on accelerating value capture within its portfolio of acquisitions and supply chain initiatives
