Tobias’ triumphs

I joined McKinsey in 2016 after my postdoc with the Simulation and Optimization Group of the Institute of Machining Technology. I was looking for a new challenge in which I could apply my skills to help solve relevant, real–world problems. I never thought about consulting, but the job description offered exactly what I wanted.

After three years of working at McKinsey, my expectations have been exceeded. The pace of work and personal growth is amazing. In my second project, I shaped a huge proof–of–concept for predictive maintenance at an energy supplier. I felt my clients and McKinsey partners valued my passion for delving into technical systems and they helped me translate that into pure impact on that project.

After that project, I did several more in a variety of industries. I found my home in McKinsey’s Operations practice, in the sector of pharmaceuticals and medical products. The leaders have empowered me to drive the data science part of analytics transformations for important international organizations. In the last two years, I helped transform a plant into a digital lighthouse and the work was presented by our clients at the World Economic Forum . I scoped and implemented proactive predictive services for a med–tech supplier. I led the technical part of an internal effort to codify the best ways to produce and scale solutions in an app store–like environment. I am very excited and happy McKinsey empowers me to proactively shape the future through my work.
