Q&A with Roshni

What is your role?

I am a business analyst in the Nairobi office. I have been at the firm for two years.

Give us one word that best describes how you work.

Meticulously.

Describe your problem–solving strategy.

Collaborate, iterate and push my thinking.

What do you do outside work?

I am passionate about writing and sharing my experiences in my blog, the Kenyan Nomad.

I am also a board member for the Kenyan chapter of the Young Women Social Entrepreneurs. This is a global values–based learning community that supports the next generation of women changemakers.

What’s one thing readers might be surprised to know about your career?

I come from a non–traditional consulting background – I have an economics degree from a liberal arts school, and after graduation I worked in the creative field for about a year and a half before joining McKinsey.

What’s your best time–saving shortcut or life hack?

Solve for energy, not time. When your energy is at its highest level, you bring your best self to all aspects of your life and get the best out of all your resources, including time.

What’s your favorite distraction?

Having a good time with friends, family and colleagues. There’s never a dull moment!

What are you currently reading?

Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss; Daring Greatly by Brene Brown; and the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Will tell you what I think when I am done with them, but so far so good.

How do you recharge?

Regular physical activity, writing, spending time with friends and family, playing with my dogs, reading, sipping glasses of wine, and travelling.
