Life as a Consultant

I feel lucky to have chosen BeLux as my new office upon my relocation from Singapore. I quickly felt at ease here.

Shiv, Engagement Manager

Office culture

BeLux is one of the most cosmopolitan offices in Europe. Our colleagues represent more than 30 different countries, and with our rapid pace of growth, we are welcoming increasingly more people from all over the world.

We enjoy an inclusive and non-hierarchical culture, with a direct, informal style and great camaraderie. Beyond work, our vibrant community gathers together often to volunteer in our local communities, enjoy office retreats, and celebrate special occasions and milestones. For example, we meet at “town halls” where our office leadership shares on-going priorities and achievements, conducts training courses to build skills and knowledge, and supports our Women’s Initiative functions. Each month, we host a “First Friday” cocktail hour to socialize and build new friendships. Finally, everyone looks forward to our office ski weekend retreat each January. Spending time together in this inclusive and relaxed environment is one of our most popular annual gatherings.

Development opportunities

With our excellent training programs, commitment to mentorship, and global presence, you’ll find unequaled opportunities to develop your career. Working in small teams, you’ll tackle client responsibilities from day one, and take on assignments that offer increasingly more ways to develop and broaden your strengths. You’ll gain powerful leadership and analytical skills that will be valuable wherever your career takes you. Finally, through a program called “AP/Partners lunches,” you’ll have a chance meet with BeLux partners specifically to expand and cultivate your professional network.

Community involvement

McKinsey helps the world's leading organizations solve complex societal challenges related to global health, economic development, education, philanthropy, and climate change. In BeLux, our office members are active in their communities—as sports fans and athletes, musicians, parents, photographers, and volunteers. Some serve on boards of non-profit organizations; others have founded their own organizations.

Our social initiatives include Women Matter, which aims to increase the proportion of women in top management, and our consultants also volunteer time through various local community programs to help unemployed people find jobs.

Embracing diversity

In BeLux, we believe our strength comes from our diversity, and our consultants bring a wide range of knowledge, backgrounds, and life experience. We support flexible working arrangements, and several of our consultants work with part-time programs at McKinsey, providing time for family or pro bono commitments. Women make up around 20 percent of our consultants and 30 percent of new recruits. Our Women’s Initiative team provides tailored training, coaching and events to support professional development and connectivity. Our global lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ) network of consultants promotes equality and respect in our firm, our clients, and our societies.
