Leads our cross-sector programs in the development of scaled AI systems, transforming organizations and helping them seize the advantages of AI.

Joe is a partner in McKinsey’s London office, where he helps clients develop and scale the AI technologies, products, and teams that underpin the future of business. He works across industries to turn ambitious strategy into systems and teams that operate at scale, bringing the perspective of an operator who has built and led large AI-focused engineering organizations through hypergrowth.

Joe brings more than 20 years of experience across engineering leadership, cloud, and AI. Before returning to McKinsey, he was president and chief technology officer of a scale-up AI fintech that delivered payments and AI products to tier-one global banks. Earlier, he co-founded and served as CTO of an AI drug-discovery start-up that used deep learning to predict the three-dimensional structure of proteins, and he was senior engineering director for platform at a hyperscale public cloud provider.

More recently, Joe has advised frontier AI labs on GPU architecture and utilization, the design of large agent graphs, and the operating model for forward-deployed engineering.

A committed advocate for open source, Joe has held advisory and board roles with industry bodies, standards organizations, and open-source foundations, and has contributed to major projects, including Kubernetes, llama.cpp, the Linux kernel, and Rust. He is listed as an inventor on six patents. A lifelong Arsenal supporter, he cofounded a nonprofit that helps young men reenter society after leaving the criminal justice system.
