National Council for Mental Wellbeing

We have collaborated with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing across multiple brain health topics. Most recently, we are partnering with National Council to build a landscape assessment of financing strategies for implementing mental health task sharing in the U.S., and to build a financial model to evaluate the cross-system impact of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs).

We partnered with the National Council and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to scale Strong Resilient Youth, a free, web-based, interactive digital curriculum to upskill educators and supportive adults in identifying and supporting youth exposed to traumatic stress. More than 10,000 educators and supportive adults have registered to be trained in trauma support. Strong Resilient Youth trauma-informed training can complement Mental Health First Aid, a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Together, we aim to make youth-facing professionals aware of and responsive to trauma and mental health.

We also partnered with the National Council, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) to quantify the impact of scaling Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) for individuals experiencing first episode psychosis (FEP). We worked closely with our partners to develop a national model illustrating the societal and economic impact of expanding access to CSC. Insights from the national impact model have been translated to a whitepaper, which is published on NAMI’s website. This collaboration is closely aligned with MHI’s foundational thinking on “scaling what works” to add years to life and life to years, and is applicable to a wide range of stakeholders from across the public, private, and social sectors.
