Developing the next generation of leaders

Brazil has one of the largest Black populations in the world, with 56 percent of its citizens identifying as Black. Yet Black professionals remain underrepresented in management roles and account for just 5 percent. In response, McKinsey created the Conferência Juntos in 2018 to inspire and propel the next generation of Black talent forward. The conference has grown into the largest diversity and inclusion event in the Brazilian corporate landscape, with the latest conference convening more than 2,000 participants across five simultaneous sessions in different cities.

Solution

Offering greater access to career opportunities

The Conferência Juntos aims to unlock possibilities for participants by connecting them with large companies and offering networking and mentorship opportunities.

Attendees can also access career fairs, professional workshops, scholarships, and over 100 free courses.

To drive meaningful results for both partner companies and participants, Juntos focuses on four key components:

  • fostering employability with résumé coaching and interview training
  • partnering with organizations committed to diversity and inclusion to strengthen experiences
  • supporting advancement with tailored content and panels for midcareer and senior leaders
  • driving engagement with connectivity opportunities throughout the year, such as social networking and partner-hosted events

Beyond the conference, Juntos offers a curated suite of products and services tailored to the unique needs of young Black talent. To date, Juntos has awarded roughly 800 scholarships for language courses, mentorships, and technical skill-building and has distributed over 15,000 résumés to partner companies.
