Construction stagnation

Speed in executing capital projects is critical for achieving sustainable-development goals, say senior partner Steffen Fuchs and coauthors. The unique needs of sustainability ventures, however, on top of faltering labor productivity growth in the construction industry, add extra challenges. Long time frames to obtain permits remain persistent issues. In France, for example, it takes an average of 213 days to complete a construction permit, while in South Korea it takes only 27.5.

Global operations in the same industry that span multiple countries may face vastly different time frames for obtaining permits.
