Good teamwork is essential to be successful with the type of work we do. Complex challenges can rarely be solved single handedly, we need to bring different knowledge and competences together. This allows us to view problems from different angles, ultimately contributing to holistic solutions for our clients.
Celebrating big and small achievements
What excites me the most about working at McKinsey is the talented and caring people I get to work alongside daily across tenures. They are my key source of inspiration and personal development. Particularly in our daily project work, but also through activities in our social committee. Here, we find all kinds of ways to connect socially and occasions to celebrate. When we spend many hours working on projects, it is important that we are also able to unwind with colleagues in a new context. I, therefore, love being involved in the planning and organizing for my colleagues to have a great time.
Supporting our colleagues
When I started as a consultant at McKinsey, I was surprised by the amount of support and personal development that was provided. The breadth of work we do requires a broad set of skills, which honestly can feel a little intriguing for a new joiner. When I mentioned to the Engagement Manager of my first project that I – despite my educational background in economics and finance - struggled with a financial model, it was immediately arranged for me to attend a modelling course at our office in Stockholm. It was amazing – in a matter of a few days I acquired and applied my new skills with immediate impact for the project. This was my first big learning – being transparent about your weaknesses and actively seeking guidance is a key to unlock personal development.
