Knowing that our work can contribute to our clients’ success and, in turn, to society, gives me a deep sense of purpose.
Memorable Projects and Collaborations
Some of my most memorable experiences at Mckinsey come from the projects I have had the opportunity to work on. One project that stands out is a global policy strategy for a med-tech client, where I was analyzing geopolitical challenges. I did not expect that I would be able to work on this kind of project, and it was incredibly exciting to work alongside experts on such a complex topic. The team dynamic was fantastic; we were five people, and while the work was intense, we shared plenty of laughs and truly enjoyed the process.
Navigating Challenges
Starting out at McKinsey was both exciting and a bit intimidating. I still remember my first week on a project; meeting new people, navigating internal references, and figuring out my role in a completely new team. However, by the end of that week, I had already made a tangible impact by identifying significant opportunities for the client. That moment gave me confidence, and I later realized that a lot of my teammates had felt the same way when they first started.
Having spent most of my teenage and adult life in international environments, collaborating with people from different cultures and countries is something I deeply value. While I had not initially planned to move back to Copenhagen, the opportunity to work in a global firm where I could continue to engage with diverse teams was a key factor in my decision.
Meaningful Work
For me, meaning comes in three parts. Firstly, the impact we create for our clients. Knowing that our work can contribute to their success and, in turn, to society, gives me a deep sense of purpose.
The second layer of meaning comes from contributing to McKinsey itself. It is about fostering a strong culture, supporting my colleagues, and helping them perform at their best. Being part of a team that values collaboration and growth is incredibly rewarding.
Finally, there is the personal meaning. As a consultant, I am able to explore a wide range of industries and career paths while building a skill set, which I will carry with me for the rest of my life. It is a unique opportunity to grow, learn, and have fun along the way.
