McKinsey is a place where my profound curiosity can be stimulated, and the degree of freedom I have in shaping my path is motivating.

Creating your own path

At McKinsey, you get the unique opportunity of creating your path, optimized as much as possible for your priorities and dreams. My priorities and dreams have always been centered around people, learnings, and adventures. It has, therefore, e.g., always been important for me to work with people I have fun with and collaborate well with, as it energizes me greatly. It has also given me a strong network across McKinsey, a network that, a few years ago, gave me the opportunity of going to Australia for a project. A true adventure, a super fun experience, and a journey that ended up being the foundation for my path forward at McKinsey for the next few years, where I spend much time traveling with work.

However, after some time, I was in a place where my priorities had shifted, and I realized I needed to optimize for something new to be on the right path continuously. I missed spending more time in Copenhagen and working with colleagues from my local office. And here, McKinsey is unique because as soon as you know your priorities, your sponsors and network are there to help you reach them. To me, McKinsey is a place where my curiosity can be stimulated, and the freedom that comes with shaping my path is motivating.

Caring deeply for colleagues and clients

What surprised me when I joined was how caring our culture is. We care deeply – both for each other and for our clients. Much of the work you do at McKinsey is not just slides and excel sheets, but also getting people to collaborate, convincing others of your ideas, telling stories, and getting people on board. We spend a lot of valuable time problem solving, debating how to go about a topic, diving deep into new areas, and learning new things constantly. The connections and caring relationships you build when working on a project are unique because of all the tough challenges we solve together as a team.

I find the people I have met extraordinary, kind, and sincere. Working with these people every day is lovely, and I always feel like I can genuinely be myself, because there are so many kinds of personalities, skill sets, and views here at McKinsey. You don’t need to fit a specific mold.
