Be part of a team that helps a non-profit shape its future.

Solve It is a competition for university students who would like to use their skills to help a non-profit to address some of their current strategic and operational challenges. Participating in this event will give you the opportunity to learn, meet like-minded peers, and do meaningful work that will have a social impact.

Competition details

Initial application – (Applications are now closed)

  • Apply, as an individual, by submitting a 1-2 page CV. Please upload this in Microsoft Word or PDF format by Sunday 20th February.
  • All applicants will receive an update on the status of their application after the application deadline.
  • If your application is successful, we will divide you into small university-based teams for the first round.

First round – March 2022

  • Each team will receive an assignment based on a key challenge facing the non-profit’s leadership.
  • Teams will then work together remotely to analyse the situation and submit their proposed solution electronically.
  • Selected teams will be invited to the final round which will take place virtually.

Final round – April 2022 (exact date TBC)

  • Teams will be given a new assignment by the same non-profit organisation.
  • You’ll spend the day coming up with a proposed solution to the challenge, supported by McKinsey consultants.
  • Solutions will be presented to a panel of McKinsey consultants and the non-profit leaders who will determine the winning team.
  • Each member of the winning team will receive £2,000 in addition to a McKinsey mentor to support them for the next six months of their academic and professional journey.

Who is eligible?

The competition is open to current undergraduate and Master’s degree students graduating in 2022 or later from one of the universities listed below. Please note that you are not eligible for this competition if you are currently studying for an MBA, PHD, or are enrolled at a university that is not listed.
