Be part of a team that helps a non-profit organization shape its future.

Solve It Switzerland is a competition for university students who would like to use their skills to help a non-profit organization address some of its current strategic and operational challenges. Participating in this event will give you the opportunity to learn, meet like-minded peers, and do meaningful work that will have a social impact.

Competition details

How to participate

To be considered for Solve It Switzerland, please submit your CV (two pages maximum) in PDF format. It can be in English or your local language.

Your CV should list your most recent education information as well as work experience, part-time jobs, volunteer roles, and extracurricular activities or achievements. A cover letter is not required.

All applicants will receive an update on the status of their application by mid-October. If your application is successful, we will divide you into small teams for the first round.

First round – October to November 2021

Each team will receive an assignment based on a key challenge facing the non-profit’s leadership. Teams will then work together remotely to analyze the situation and submit their proposed solution electronically.

Selected teams will be invited to the final round, which will take place in person at our office in Zurich (if the current situation allows).

Final round – December 2021

Teams will gather in our office in Zurich and will be given a new assignment by the same non-profit organization. Supported by McKinsey consultants, teams will spend the day coming up with a proposed solution to the challenge. Solutions will be presented to a panel of McKinsey consultants and the non-profit leaders who will determine the winning team.

Each member of the winning team will receive 1’000 CHF in addition to a McKinsey mentor supporting them for the next six months of their academic and professional journey. On top of that 500 CHF will be donated in the name of each team member to the non-profit organization.

Eligibility

If you have previously applied for a role or event with McKinsey, you are still welcome to apply. All applications will be reviewed regardless of prior applications or their outcomes.

At this time, we are only able to host this competition for students from a limited number of universities. If your university is not included in the list, or you are ready to apply for a full-time role, please visit our careers website to learn about other opportunities that might be of interest to you.
