  • 10+ years of professional experience in business writing and editing, including digital publishing – preferably for an English-language publication, a professional-services firm, or a research/insights organization or department
  • Familiarity with survey development, research methods, and/or communication of data-based insights
  • Strong editorial judgment; ability to rapidly absorb complex ideas and interpret large data sets and distill them into accessible multimedia content for global audiences; experience curating and repurposing content to extend its reach
  • Solid understanding of general business concepts
  • Excellent communication skills (many of your interactions will be remote)
  • Exceptional project-management and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage complex processes, and meet both short-term and long-term deadlines 
  • Ability to confidently and tactfully engage with senior staff and subject-matter experts; skill at achieving consensus and moving projects forward
  • Positive attitude and team orientation
  • Willingness to be edited by peers and to receive and act on feedback
  • Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment and to deal with ambiguity; willingness to proactively seek guidance when appropriate   

Who You'll Work With

You’ll be a critical part of McKinsey Global Publishing, joining a global team including ~25 editors. Within McKinsey Global Publishing, you’ll work with the team responsible for running McKinsey’s Global Surveys program.

What You'll Do

You will work closely with McKinsey authors—typically senior consultants and industry/functional experts—to develop original survey content that showcases McKinsey’s distinctive knowledge and expertise in important management topics. 

You will be a consummate collaborator and project manager, acting as both thought partner and service provider. This includes refining McKinsey’s authors’ main hypotheses for their research, editing and shaping survey questionnaires, setting up online surveys with third-party support, identifying noteworthy findings and storylines from the results, producing strong drafts of data-driven content for publication, and managing the complex logistics of each survey project from start to finish.

As part of your role, you will also be responsible for initiatives to increase the McKinsey Global Surveys program’s reach with audiences and to expand and engage the proprietary panel that participates in many of our surveys.

Over time, you’ll develop an active professional network within the firm—in particular, build relationships with practice managers and knowledge experts. You will stay current on business news and trends and have an appreciation of audience-engagement practices and digital analytics.
