You’ll work in teams of typically 3 – 5 consultants, playing an active role in all aspects of client engagement.
This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations. You’ll also have the opportunity to present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members. The McKinsey MD Fellowship is an experiential full-time program for medical students who seek to become proficient in the business of medicine. This paid MD Fellowship program offers medical students between their third and fourth years the opportunity to spend two years as a McKinsey consultant, working with healthcare leaders in the private, public, and social sectors. Medical school students in year 2 or 3 can apply for roles that occur between their third and fourth year of medical school.
The goal of the MD Fellowship program is to train future leaders in health care by providing Fellows with world-class apprenticeship in solving business problems and leading in the business context during a two year program. These skills will be of direct and lasting relevance in a broad range of future careers, including leadership roles in academic medicine, operations roles in clinical enterprises and strategic roles in business, policy and administration.
MD Fellows serve on client project teams alongside traditional consultants, gaining broad exposure to health care businesses and business problems. They receive extensive day-to-day mentorship and apprenticeship from senior consultants. Fellows are also eligible for the extensive curriculum of professional development that McKinsey delivers to its new consultants, including >2.5 weeks of full-time learning programs in foundational skills, personalized coaching on developing as a leader, and on-demand access to McKinsey’s library of >500 self-paced learning modules. Fellows can expect to gain invaluable business training, a new perspective on healthcare systems and strategies, unparalleled professional development opportunities, and a global network of dynamic colleagues.
