Two fun events as I get closer to maternity leave

Hi everyone,

I can’t believe it’s already November—the month our baby will arrive! After this I’m hoping to squeeze in one last post and then I’ll take a break for maternity leave.

Today I’m writing about two events that I really enjoyed. The first was inspired by the North American Women in Ops Day I wrote about last time. My colleagues Rashmi (an associate partner with Operations), Michele (a senior expert with Ops) and I loved connecting with so many women and wanted to get to know our local Chicago cohort even better. We pulled together a dim sum brunch on a recent Sunday for Chicago-based women in Ops and their significant others. It was so nice to catch up with everyone at a smaller scale event, and the food was awesome.

The second event was a learning program called Impact Through Expertise. I was the lead faculty member for the class, which was for colleagues at the expert level, including solution leaders, digital colleagues, knowledge experts, etc. Some of the attendees joined the firm as experts, and others started off as generalists and then switched to the expert path. It was an incredibly diverse group of people, both in terms of background and current roles at the firm, and we learned a lot from one another through in-depth discussions. Among other topics, we talked about how to work more effectively as an expert, the expert value proposition (for clients and for ourselves), how to build one’s network, and how to be successful in a non-generalist role.

I will share one last post before my maternity leave later this month. Until then!
