Building relationships
McKinsey has a very supportive culture. Everybody is keen to coach new joiners. From my first engagement, I developed trust-based relationships with my colleagues, and we’ve become friends. No matter how busy they are, my colleagues never hesitate to invest their time in my development. For example, every one or two weeks I have feedback calls with my mentor. For the last two years, he has perfectly identified my development areas and guided me in ways I could improve. McKinsey helps me perform at my best.
Creating impactful solutions
At McKinsey, I work on the most critical problems for my clients. My colleagues trust me to deliver my work regardless of the difficulty of the problem we’re solving. For instance, during my internship at McKinsey, when I was a senior at my university, I developed advanced analytical models to optimize the operating profit of our client. I presented our solutions to the senior client executives to show our impact.
A diverse and equal community
I am a big supporter of diversity in our society. I believe the brightest ideas come from a diverse and equal community. At McKinsey, we have firm and office-level initiatives to achieve true inclusion. We aim to understand our colleagues and candidates and design different journeys and support for them based on their needs. McKinsey’s vision is aligned with my aspiration, so I am glad to be a part of these efforts.
A tip for future applicants
Being authentic was key during my interviews. Before the interviews, I tried to define what differentiated me and link those attributes to my personal skills, interests and achievements. Also, approach your interviewers as coaches who want you to show your best, they want you to succeed. My first interviewer, for example, has become a mentor now that I’ve joined the firm.
