I love surprising people – helping them to see things they haven’t in the past. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to travel with my family so I can discover the world again through my daughter’s eyes. In part, that’s what led me to McKinsey.
I was a consultant before I joined the firm. I spent nine years mainly serving industrial companies in industries from automotive to fashion. I helped them achieve operational excellence, evaluate M&A opportunities and restructure.
I was drawn to McKinsey Implementation for two reasons: the opportunity to help leading organizations transform at scale and the ability to shape one of the fastest-growing, start-up like areas within McKinsey. I feel like an entrepreneur, helping to turn McKinsey from a strategy only firm into a leader in implementation.
Since I came to McKinsey, I’ve had many incredible experiences helping clients do things they didn’t think they could. I helped a client’s leadership team decide to invest in a topic long considered taboo. I witnessed a client go from being completely against consultants to being one of our strongest supporters, speaking publicly about the impact we achieved together. My clients have told me McKinsey helps them to solve problems with a pragmatism that helps them get things done faster and with less disruption. There have been many moments to be proud of, and we have always celebrated them as a team.
In fact, one of the things that surprised me the most about McKinsey is how positive, fun and caring the people are; they are much different than the austere and formal colleagues I thought I would find here. My teammates have helped me every step of the way. Their feedback has helped me to grow. I’ve learned to better leverage my strengths and feel more confident in my decision-making skills. I’ve learned to be bold – in holding a position when I believe it is the right one and in assuming calculated risks. It turns out McKinsey is helping me to see the world in new and surprising ways, as well.
